Passive House Institute U.S. PHIUS 2018+ Analysis

We design to the very rigorous Passive House Institute U.S. PHIUS 2018+ Standard, which typically results in a building that uses only about 10% to 30% of the energy compared to a typical building. PHIUS+ Certified homes and buildings qualify as EnergyStar and DOE Zero-Energy Ready buildings.

Performance Simulation – "EEM" Analysis

"Energy-Efficiency Measure" evaluation helps compare the impact of various design strategies for lowering utility costs and energy consumption. By charting EEMs one at a time, it is easy to see which measures have the most impact on cost and energy efficiency and select the best combination.

Whole-Building Life-Cycle Cost Analysis

Using the Life Cycle Costing Manual for the Federal Energy Management Program (Handbook 135), we evaluate EEMs and whole building performance as we design to determine the least overall up-front, construction and operating cost (i.e. minimum payback period, best ROI).

LEED Certification Consulting

As a LEED BD+C Accredited Professional, W. Brent Swain can participate on commercial projects seeking LEED Certification. He will soon also be offering services as a LEED HOMES AP.

Building Life-Cycle Assessment

Building Life-Cycle Assessment "LCA" assesses the impact of the building envelope on the environment and human health in 7 areas: fossil fuel consumption, global warming potential, acidification, human health criteria, eutrophication, ozone depletion, and smog.

Belle Rivers Life-Cycle Assessment

To help Belle Rivers Workforce Housing achieve NGBS Certification, Sustainable Architecture PLLC performed a whole-building LCA. Reductions in harmful ecological impact included: fossil fuel consumption 19%, global warming 12%, acidification 42%, eutrophication 37%, ozone depletion 12%.
